Pontos Fortes: Reasonable Cost, 4-AA batteries (lower cost rechargeable with great life), good form and feel and features!
Pontos Fracos: None so far other than some redeye. I seem to get this with all my cameras. The software eliminated it completely and easily like magic!!!
Resumo: I had used a competitve 3Meg camera a few weekends ago and their redeye reduction was not as thorough. I am looking forward to some great family shots with this camera. A lot of features to understand but that is a good thing! So far I have just played around with about 1/3 of the potential scene modes plus the video/sound recording. Nothing but praise so far. Good luck! It was between the digital rebel and this A95 but the A95 won out due to size/cost since this was my first digital camera. Maybe next year for the SLR since you know prices will continue to drop!

Pontos Fortes: Big enough not to get lost. Rotating LCD screen. So many creative shooting modes even under water with special case. Excellent pictures. Fairly easy to use for first time user.
Pontos Fracos: Flimsy Card door. 32mb CF card to small.
Resumo: After much research I decided on the Canon A95 due to its size and excellent features. This is my first digital camera and I looked at several smaller more compact camera's but had problems using some of the functions due to their small size. This camera is large enough to use all of the functions without getting lost.

I really liked the rotating LCD screen and the many creative shooting modes. Being this is my first diital camera I found it takes high quality pictures and is fairly easy to use.

The Card and battery doors are a little flimsy but with a little caution should not be a problem.

Overall very happy with performance

Pontos Fortes: Excellent Pictures, Much better low light pictures than the other $500 digital camera that I have
Pontos Fracos: None so far
Resumo: I would recommend this camera for the price. The software is very easy to use and I like the filing system compared to the Fuji or Kodak software.

Pontos Fortes: Resolution, LCD clarity, good zoom features
Pontos Fracos: LCD size is small, heavy camera, needs 4 batteries
Resumo: Overall one of the latest and best 5MP camera...I got it for $300 and it was a steal...worth the money and overall I am happy with it...not ok if you want a small lightweight high res. camera but if you are ready to lift the load..this is the one you want to have

Pontos Fortes: Great camera. Just as good as my Nikon 70 SLR. I like the fact that I can use auto or manual. The A95 has everything needed to take fantastic pictures.
Pontos Fracos: None
Resumo: I am so glad I read Dave's Picks. After reading the reviews I bought the A95. If I had just gone and bought any digital I know I would not have been as happy as I am with this camera. I also purchased a canon ip3000 photo printer. Professional looking photographs. I will check Dave's picks when ever I am buying anything in the future.

Pontos Fortes: Great color, ease to use and very solid feeling. Uses CF cards and AA batteries that are available everywhere. Quick start up. Canon reputation.
Pontos Fracos: 4x or 5x optical would be better.
Resumo: I have an older Casio QV3000 and bought my Mom the A95 for Xmas. I used it and was so impressed I bought one for myself.

Pontos Fracos: I have not found any weaknesses.
Resumo: I would recommend this camera to anyone. I love everything about it. I like the fact that I can add lenses to it if I like also. It is very easy to handle even for a person with small hands. This is just a great camera.

Pontos Fortes: Nice size, Good/great battery life with rechargeables, Great picture quality, Lots or functions/shooting modes, easy to use and well layed out(buttons ect...)
Pontos Fracos: Really can't think or any at this time and most likely won't.
Resumo: Canon is a great company and has always produced great products. This is my first Digital camera and I am very peased with it. The only thing that I have noticed with this camera that is close to a negative ocured with indoor shots. Once when taking pictures in morderate to low light the camera had a dificult time dispalying the picture to be taked on the LCD screen. Once the flash went off, the picture would come out almost perfect but on the darkside. Personally I Think it was just an unusual lighting situation that I was faced with. All in all I lover the camera and I think it takes great pictures.

Pontos Fracos: Few.
Resumo: 2005-08-20 09:29:17 Extremely happy with this camera. Great photographs, cool features, feels great in the hand, etc. Haven't figured out some of the low light features yet. I love that it has some advanced features to go with it's point and shoot capabilities.

Pontos Fortes: Swivel/flip LCD, manual controls, accepts add-on lenses, optical viewfinder, produces nice pictures, accepts AA batteries and CompactFlash, PictBridge support
Pontos Fracos: Relatively small screen, flash takes a while to recharge at times, prominent ISO noise above 200, tends to have blown-out highlights and fringing
Resumo: Having previously owned a Powershot A70 and had a good experience with it, I expected as much from the A95. It delivered. I particularly like the ability to select manual exposure, white balance, focus, etc., which you don't see on too many cameras. I have only a few concerns. First of all, there is noticeable fringing in some shots, especially those taken indoors with bright fluorescent lighting. Also, there is prominent ISO noise above 200 (with a range of 50-400). Autofocusing is slower than more modern cameras, but that's to be expected of anything that's seen a few years in production. Overall, I am satisfied with this camera; I just wish it were a bit faster.

Pontos Fortes: Great pictures, tons of manual controls, solidly built, flip-out LCD
Pontos Fracos: Redeye, not a great bundle
Resumo: First off, I'm a beginner to photography, so I may not have the eye for details others have. However, I'm very impressed w/ the picture quality. I've read some reviews that say the picture quality isn't as good as the A80's quality (same lens + more megapixels = more noise), but I haven't noticed it. I had an A80 for a bit, but had to return it, and then got the A95. I loved the A80, and love this one even more. The larger LCD is much more crisp, which is a bonus. I don't fully use the manual controls now, but plan to "grow into them". I bought some NiMH rechargeable batteries, and they hold up great (you'll get maybe 20 pictures w/ the supplied alkeline batteries before tossing them). Besides the door over the compact flash (which is kinda flimsy), the camera feels solid and well built. The menus and layout for the camera are simple enough. The manual is well written and easy to understand.

Things I'm not a fan of: besides the great software, the bundle it comes w/ is very unexciting. No rechargeable batteries or anything of the sort. Just an average bundle. Also, there is noticeable redeye in many of the indoor photos, but those can be removed via the software, or you can just delete it and shoot another picture (which is why I'm switching to d-cam to begin with).

Overall, I would recommend buying this camera. Lots of features for a reasonable price.

Pontos Fortes: Great compact camera that fairly easy to use. Swivel LCD makes the camera highly flexible for a variety of shooting situations. Addition of manual controls cover all types of shooting conditions.
Pontos Fracos: The manual could be better written. The memory that comes with the camera is too small to be really useful. You'll need to upgrade the memory.
Resumo: This is a great camera for the price. (I was able to get it on-line for $294.00) The body is comfortable to hold due to its shape. I can't say enough about the swivel LCD monitor. I've been able to take facial portraits of myself and another person by pointing the camera around to face us and all the while monitoring the framing of the shot with the LCD swiveled towards us. It also helps when shooting odd angle shots above or below your head level.

The point and shoot AUTO mode is pretty reliable in terms of producing good output. The fun comes when you explore the manual settings. It allows for another level of creativity. The software that comes with the camera is easy to use and does a pretty good job of removing red-eye from shoots that the camera doesn't manage to get rid of. If you spend enough time with the written manual (which needs to be written a bit better) you can really have fun with this camera above and beyond the point and click mode.

Pontos Fortes: It has alot of extra features for more advanced photo.
Pontos Fracos: If you don't buy rechargable batteries, it will spend a lot of money on batteries.
Resumo: This is my second digital camera. My previous one was a 2.2megapix. I like that the camera is easy to operate for non adavnced users and it also has many other advanced features such as:

-Photo Effects: Low Sharpening, Vivid Color, Neutral, Sepia and B&W

-15 pre-programmed creative scene modes

-Shutter speeds of 15 seconds

Overall, I am happy with the camera.

Pontos Fortes: The camera takes photos w/good clarity, is lightweight and easy to handle. Many features to use (which I have not tried yet). Viewing screen flips out for timed use.
Pontos Fracos: The camera is a bit slow to focus and definitely too slow in actual shutter action.
Resumo: So far, I like this camera. I like that the view screen flips out and look forward to using it in timed photos;my daughter likes seeing herself in the screen when I take a photo of her. I haven't used the movie feature yet. The plastic door for the compact flash has been no problem unlike other reviews I've read. I do wish it had a neck strap w/it, not just a wrist strap as I'm fearful I'll bang it or drop it w/the wrist strap. The photos are easy to transfer to your computer. There are many features which is a plus...since I don't use it everyday however, I must continually refer to the manual to use the features each time.

Pontos Fortes: good size for 1 hand operation, flip out display, price
Pontos Fracos: a little heavier than most
Resumo: I was drawn between the A95, and Nikon's 5200. Both are 5 mega pix, but the Canon has a flip out display and was a little less expensive. I am satisfied with the Canon. It has plenty of options, great picture quality, and is very simple to use. A good all around camera.
