Pontos Fortes: No PC required! Built in speaker, sensitive remote, price, PIP function
Pontos Fracos: Doesn't support HD, no recording function
Sumário: 2007-02-19 22:17:15 It is smaller than I imagined from the picture. Manual could have been better as it took me quite a while to figure out how to scan the channels. Besides that, installation was very easy.
It doesn't require PC, which means no software installation required. It also means it doesn't have digital recording function. Just connect your monitor to the tuner. That's it!! You can set up the display with the remote.
There are various resolution options including 800*600@60/75Hz, 1024*768@60/75Hz, 1280*1024@60Hz, and 1440*900@60Hz. I have a 19" wide screen LCD monitor that supports 1400*900 resolution, and this tuner works great with my monitor.
Speaker is not stereo, but the quality is good.
I have owned 4 TV tuners, and the remote of this tuner is the most sensitive among them.
I bought this product because of the price after the rebate. Just anticipate that it takes forever for them to proceed the rebates. I have heard a lot of complaints about that. They do offer the rebates. Just it takes forever, and many times you need multiple e-mails or phone calls.

Pontos Fortes: Good image quality, easy to set up, all-in-one solution to watch TV in a PC monitor, good looking.
Pontos Fracos: So so manual, very hard to read rear labels.
Sumário: This is my second TV tuner from Kworld. The first unit was a bad unit, with serious sound issues. This one, however, has improved a lot in the sound department. The unit is perfect for converting your computer monitor in a TV set with sound, with no PC required. Video quality is very good, with more details than you are used to see in a standard CRT-TV. The reason presumably arises from the fact that you probably watch TV at a much longer distance than a computer monitor. Sound is OK, like a standard PC speaker. It can certainly be improved connecting the line out jack to a sound system. The unit really looks very good, it's black with a smooth feel, very nice for the price. It includes a plastic stand, and a remote control. It also includes cables to connect a VGA monitor to a TV analog signal (NTSC) for all imaginable scenarios. I tried to hook it up to a TV set with tuner problems, and I realized that the only TV output is VGA (with no conversion cables). However, for a few bucks it is possible to buy a VGA to RCA cable and give a new life to a TV set with tuner problems, or give audio output to an old TV. The manual is very basic and it is not well written, however is very easy to figure out how to set the device. The only problem is that the labels on the rear case are impossible to read (black on black). Most of the jacks are distinguishable because of their shapes, but for example there is no way to realize which hole is audio line-in or line-out, unless you try first or read the manual. I am really happy with the product and I recommend it if you are interested in a standard definition tuner with sound for your PC monitor.

Pontos Fortes: Compact size, Full-size remote, Built-in speaker, PIP
Pontos Fracos: Mono speaker, Proprietary/?non-standard cables, short wiring
Sumário: The Kworld TVBox 1440 is a compact size (~2.5" notebook hard drive in external enclosure) analog NSTC TV tuner box for your PC monitor. No PC is required, but when used with a PC, you can watch TV on your PC monitor while working on your computer at the same time (PIP functionality). Use this to convert your PC LCD to a LCD TV.
There are quite a few external tv tuner boxes, this is one of many. (Make sure the ones you evaluate does not require a PC for use (ex. USB connection)).
Included is a full size remote (the Viewsonic N4 has a credit card size mini remote). There is a built in speaker, so there is no need (if converting a spare computer monitor, either CRT or LCD to a TV) for external speakers, but it is mono (hence not spectacular sound quality) and you'll probably add external [stereo] speakers (there is an audio output as well as included cable).
Uses proprietary/limited availability MMI cables (looks like S-Video connector). Included are three MMI cables, one for composite (RCA video), one for S-Video/RCA audio & video, and a third for YPbPr). (My first exposure to MMI cables) The included MMI cables are about 6" long. The AC cord is rather short, about 2-3 feet, farrily thin gauge.
Has other features such as channel preview (see 9 channels at one time [in a small size picture of course] to determine which to select).
Just setup, did not go through [extensive] evaluation, but am pleased with its offering. Price wise, is on par (purchased due to offered rebates). Analog tuner, so certainly not Hi-def. Tested on a 15" LCD. Reportedly capable of 1440x900, but I was unable to test. One cable (MMI cable - RCA video) did not work (alternate MMI - S-video/audio & cable did, so I know it was the cable and not the source).
Again, this is one of a few similar items available. I would recommend this for the right price.

Pontos Fortes: No need for a PC, plug-and-play, compact main unit with full-size remote
Pontos Fracos: No HD (only up to 1440x900), mono speaker, odd numeric keypad layout on the remote (4 across instead of 3), manual obviously not written by a native English speaker or professional tech writer
Sumário: Using this product, you can convert your spare LCD monitor into a TV - perfect for a child's bedroom, utility room or kitchen. This is an especially affordable alternative to purchasing an expensive LCD TV, given the low cost of monitors nowadays, and the rebates currently available on this particular model (with rebates and coupons, even after shipping, my total out-of-pocket for this device was a mere $0.60!). You can also combine this with a PC and take advantage of PIP to work on your PC while watching TV, however I have not gone with this configuration. For me, since I have a Slingbox, I wouldn't do this on any of my home PCs anyways. This is an interesting comparison, given the similar capability to turn your monitor into a TV - but what this device won't be able to do, is turn your PC into a DVR.
As noted above as a weakness of this product, the built-in speaker produces low quality sound. Fortunately it has a line-out and I have hooked it up to a hi-fi stereo system. It also provides an output to your PC audio in addition to the line-out. It can also take A/V input from other devices, like a DVD player, gaming system or camcorder. Basically, there are really no limitations to setting this up as if it were a true, non-HD TV set.
With rebates, this device is a real bargain. However I have 2 minor worries.
1. Will KWorld process my rebates? If not, this device won't be such a bargain.
2. How long will this product last? I had to shake and bang the remote the first time before it would even work, and it appears that the PC audio out and line-out jacks were reversed during assembly! So the quality control is a little suspect...

Pontos Fortes: Compact,Speakers,Remote & International voltage support
Pontos Fracos: No HD Support,Mono Speakers
Sumário: Amazing product, you can watch TV, or Play videogame. Picture quality & reception are not so great with TV tuner.
I use it for connecting my Xbox to LCD monitor, it works very well for my use and picture quality is good. External speakers are good for emergency use. Overall, it is a nice product.

Kworld External Tv Tuner Spkr Turn Your LCD Monitor Into A Tv Set
Pontos Fortes: Ultra portable, has remote, NO PC needed
Pontos Fracos: No HD support
Sumário: The power adapter is 110v-230v, so you can bring it with you when traveling abroad. It has a tiny speaker, but it's mono. The included cables are pretty short.

Functional TV tuner at reasonably price (ONLY if rebates go through)
Pontos Fortes: Easy setup, most channels show reasonably clear pictures, comes with many cables
Pontos Fracos: Picture quality, mono speaker, layout on remote is bad, poor technical support, dubious rebate processing
Sumário: The build of this unit looks quite promising, with a rubbery finish on both sides. Setup was easy, though it should be noted that whenever power is plugged in or out there would be a large pop sound, which is quite disturbing.
Most of the channels show clear pictures (although not pretty low quality and resolution). The design of the remote is quite disappointing, and its battery compartment is problematic. When I contacted their support about it, they suggested that Duracell and energizer should not be used or to use a piece of aluminum foil (!!) to aid in battery contacts. Many resources have claimed their rebate to be dubious, and one may have to fight to get rebates back.

Ok External Tv Tuner
Pontos Fortes: Portable, no need for PC, built-in speaker, inexpensive
Pontos Fracos: No HDTV support, not good quality
Sumário: I bought this tv tuner at a low price. It seems pretty good at first sight, since it is stylish, compact, portable, and there is no need for a PC. However, it doesn't work quite well. The tuner doesn't support HDTV, and there are always noise signals on the screen. Built-in speaker is a good idea, but the performance of the speaker is very poor. If you spend much time on watching TV, go for other brand name tv tuners.

KWorld Does Not Pay Rebates!
Pontos Fortes: The product does work as described.
Pontos Fracos: Universal remotes will not work on this unit.
Sumário: Be happy paying full price before any rebate as KWorld is well known on the web for not paying valid rebates. The product does work as described and is a good way to turn a LCD monitor into a TV. The speaker is small and sound is not that great, you really need external speakers. Do not lose or break the remote as the universal remotes will not control this unit. You do not need direct line of sight between the unit and remote control to operate the unit. Ignore any rebate offers on this product as it just plain will never come.

bad product, avoid it
Pontos Fortes: Inexpensive(if you get back rebates), slim, with internal speaker
Pontos Fracos: bad signal, unhelpful technical support
Sumário: I bought this product because of the rebates. But I have heard a lot of bad stories about the rebates, so I sent in the rebate via return receipt. Hopefully I can get the rebate back. My first impression of this tv box is that it is kind of cute. But when i plugged in my local TV cable, I felt dissappointed. It was wired that I had some clear channels and at the same time a lot of snowy channels. I got very good picture from my year-old tv, but not this tv box. I tried to contact Kworld but they had no clue what problem it is. So I am thinking about shipping it back to the manufacturer.

Pontos Fortes: It works! Pretty good picture quality. Built-in speakers.
Pontos Fracos: Using the on board control buttons is not intuitive.
Sumário: Picture quality on a 19 inch CRT monitor was as good as it can get with an analog cable feed. The built-in speaker is good for quick use. There is the option of hooking up external speakers but I did not try that.

Pontos Fortes: Small
Pontos Fracos: None
Sumário: A great and really small unit, it comes with a remote and is reasonably easy to set up.
The picture quality is acceptable, but the speaker quality could be improved, I would recommend using external speakers.
With rebates it's a great deal.

Pontos Fortes: No PC Required.
Pontos Fracos: Weak Speakers.
Sumário: I hooked this external TV tuner with my 19" LCD monitor. I was able to plug and play. I was able to watch TV on my monitor. It even comes with built in speaker though I would recommend using an external set. Also, you can surf the internet and watch TV simultaneously using the PIP function. It has a fully functional IR remote control allowing you to change channels, select source input. You can also connect it to other video input devices (e.g. VCR, DVD player, TV game console etc.)

Pontos Fortes: Picture in picture. Can switch between pc and tv on one monitor, or do both with picture in picture.
Pontos Fracos: none
Sumário: This is awesome if you have a spare monitor that you want to turn into a tv. Either a standard CATV cable can be plugged in, or you can use svideo, component, or standard rca. It has a built in turner so you can change channels on the CATV video feed. You can also choose an av source to display, just like a normal tv. I highly recommend this.
