Great for migration from a dead 48S/SX/G/GX

Pontos Fracos: Ever so slightly wider than the 48g, but noticable. Really that's about it (after a week of use). I would have liked a bigger "ENTER" key.

My 48G died after many good years of service. I read the bashing that the 49g took and was somewhat concerned with the purchase of the 49g+. It came with the latest ROM already installed so I did not suffer through key debouncing or battery life issues that other earlier adopters had to endure. I created a user defined key to provide quicker access to the equation library (since this is now fairly buried) and I set some system FLAGs to make is act a little more like the 48G out of the box but that was fairly simple. I'm glad that HP made this calculator and continues to make calculators. If you had an HP28/S or 48S/SX/G/GX user you will immediately enjoy using this calculator and feel at home. One other thing is that the calculator looks very elegant in gold and black. I was never a fan of the 48G/GX color scheme (I preferred the brown 48S/SX) so this color scheme is much more appealing that the 48G. Small detail but still adds to the overall experience with the calculator. The manual are pretty much all PDFs which some have complained about. I think thats great since they can be searched easily. I'd rather have more money in the calculator than in printed materials as long as the PDFs are thorough (they are).

I personally give HP an 'A' on this one. Your milage may vary depending on use but for moderate professional engineering use this is a good calculator.

Great Calculator!

Pontos Fortes: Reverse Polish Notation, Powerful and fast solver, SD expansion, Large ROM and RAM capacity.

Pontos Fracos: Low Resolution, Keypad made of rubber.

If the HP49G+ has the screen and button of TI-89, then it'd be a perfect calculator. This calculator is over a very very powerful one, but how study is it? We'll see as time goes by.

This piece of technology is everything an engineer student needs. What is realy apealing to me is the SD card that can be attached to it, in a way that you don't have to delete old stuff due the lack of memory space and also the USB interface once you can transfer data from your laptop to your calculator and vice-versa. HP also promisses to make updates on its software online. As technology has improved a lot, they should already start building calculators with colorfull display and also palm features.

Pontos Fortes: Big, easy to read screen, fast 3d graphing, no missed keypresses, and a SD card slot for practically unlimited expandibility.

Pontos Fracos: The hinged keys can be hard to press, and the SD card slot may require fiddling to get a card in.

If you want the most powerful calculator available, this is it! However, with that power comes a steep learning curve. Plan to spend several hours finding your way around the menus and becoming comfortable with the interface. If you do not have time for this, then this is probably not the calculator for you. Although earlier batches of this calculator had some issues with the keyboard, I have had not such troubles. All keys have always registered exactly once -- no ddoubles or missed keypresses. It's 3d graphing abilities are excellent, and rotating the graph is very fast. It has full symbolic support, and can solve many types of equations. It can integrate and work with very large integers. For example, calculating 1000 factorial is not a problem! (This is 1000*999*998*997*...*4*3*2) If you are using it for calculus, it has no trouble symbolically solving indefinite and definite integrals. It supports Algebraic, RPN & textbook modes of input. The printed manual is incomplete, and serves only as a small introduction -- make sure to download the "User's Guide" and the "Advanced Users Reference Manual" from hp.com so you can fully utilize the calculator. The interface is a seamless experience, and with every key being user definable, you can swap out lesser used functions (ex., "1/X") with more commonly used ones (like squaring). Recommended!

Pontos Fracos: the only thing that it misses is a color display!

I used a 2-d HP graph calculator for 5 years, then I decided to get this new HP calculator that makes 3-d graphs. It is amazing how things have improved. The calculator comes with an awesome leather case. It is very light. The manual is easy to use. I use to have trouble with my old calculator having to delete all the time my programs because the lack of memory space, in this one you just need to plug an SD card. It came with an USB cable so you can download/store programs and data; HP also promises future updates online. It has a bigger display than the competitor calculators. Its appearance is nicer than Texas’ calculators, it doesn’t look so plastic! This calculator, for this price is a very good deal!
