Pontos Fortes: Solid build quality Made in Japan No deterioration in image quality Multicoated Reasonable Price
Pontos Fracos: N/A
Resumo: Using this on my Canon 70-200mm F2.8L IS USM, and I can't see any difference in picture quality with or without this filter on, which is excellent, as cheaper alternatives may make picture either darker or lose detail. This filter is really great and makes me confident knowing that I am not losing image quality while having the peace of mind knowing my expensive lens is being protected.

This filter offers such high quality that I am planning to buy one more as back up, for when I get the 24-105 or 24-70 canon L lens, which uses the same size.

Pontos Fortes: Well made, can't see any difference looking with and without filter. Overall a good filter at a decent price!
Pontos Fracos: Have not used long enough to discern any light falloff or flare.
Resumo: I bought this filter for my Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS lens. I bought it just for protection of this expensive lens, and it seems to do the job without any discernable degradation in image quality. I have not had it long enough to see if there are any serious flare problems, but I don't imagine that it should, considering it has the multi-coat glass. Overall a good filter for it's price!

Pontos Fortes: High quality glass, multi-coating, and well constructed.
Pontos Fracos: None
Resumo: As a professional photographer, I need a high quality UV filter to protect my expensive lens. This UV filter is great for protecting the lens while not dimishing image quality. There is no point in buying an expensive lens and putting a low quality filter in front of it. That's why I trust this high quality, multi-coated filter to protect my high quality, multi-coated front element on my lens.

Pontos Fortes: High quality material, protects the lens against nicks and scratches
Pontos Fracos: None
Resumo: I've had this filter on my new sigma 10-20mm wide angle lens and it fits and works like a charm. This is a must have filter both for UV protection as well as general protection for the actual lens glass. I would much rather scratch this puppy than my $500 lens!

I have other Hoya filters on other lenses and they are all extremely high quality and I continue to purchase this brand.

Pontos Fortes: Little or no glare compared to other UV filters, lens protection, 99%+ light transmission
Pontos Fracos: Not the cheapest filter out there. Supposedly harder-than-usual to clean due to its coatings.
Resumo: I use this on a higher end Canon zoom, and find it's about as close as you can get to having the protection of a UV filter without any detectable negative effect on image quality. I rarely take it off. (And I do actually use the S-HMC, aka SMC, Hoya filters on all my lenses for peace of mind.)

Haven't had to do a marked cleaning yet, but would suggest having a Lens Pen and / or Formula MC on-hand to clean it when it eventually needs it (the Lens Pen has worked fine for me with light cleaning).

I know there are those who don't like extra glass between them and their subject, but I have yet to have issue with this line. On the other hand, all it takes is an occasional large dust speck or water spray or something landing on the filter rather than the lens itself for me to be glad it's there as I wipe it down.

This easily fits in the category of "if you're going to buy a protective filter, make sure it's one that won't negatively impact your images," and I find the peace of mind that my lens has some protection other than just the hood when it's on well worth it.

Pontos Fortes: Good price, quality of glass, and multi-coating.
Pontos Fracos: The matel ring is not as good as B+W filters.
Resumo: I use Hoya S-HMC UV(0) on my two canon L lens. This quality filter provides good protection for the front element on the expensive lens. I can't see any difference in image quality with and without UV. It is a good deal for the low price.
